BED & BREAKFAST FAQs
This may be the first time you will stay in bed & breakfast accommodation. Therefore, we would like to give you some simple guidance on what to expect to avoid misunderstandings, disappointment or complaint.
Breakfast
In general, the continental breakfast consists of toast or bread, jams or “English marmalade”, sometimes ham and cheese, cereals and tea / coffee and orange juice.
On request and upon prior arrangement before arrival you can book an English breakfast with bacon & eggs, sausages, tomato and mushrooms,... for a small supplement in several Bed & Breakfast. Every home has its own breakfast.
Guest rooms and bathrooms
- All rooms and homes are NON SMOKING.
- Towels and bedding are furnished in all rooms.
- You can book the following rooms:
- Single room
- Double room with double bed
- Twin room with two single beds
- Triple or Family room (3 or 4 single beds in one room or one double and 1-2 single beds)
- Additional beds for children (fold-up beds or sofa beds)
- Shared bathroom: Sometimes 2 to 3 guest rooms share one bathroom, sometimes the host also uses the guest bathroom, this varies from home to home
- Own bathroom: You have sole use of a bathroom which is either besides your room or opposite the landing.
- Bathroom ensuite: This means that your bathroom is in your room with direct access from your room and is for sole use.
- Other countries other manners: In most homes there are modern bathrooms but in England you do not always have shower curtains and there is no Power Shower. In England there are NO sockets in the bathrooms, this is not allowed by law.
Parking
- In a lot of bed & breakfast there is free parking on the street in front of the house. Sometimes parking fees occur. If you would like to travel to London with your own car, please let us know.
House roules, breakfast times & keys
- All hosts will give you a key on arrival
- The hosts assume that you will leave the house after breakfast to visit London and that you only come back to the bed & breakfast in the late afternoon or in the evening. Please understand this arrangement as you are in a private family and not in a hotel.
- Each bed & breakfast has it’s own “house roules” and will inform you on arrival about the breakfast times.
Arrival and departure
- This is very important for your bed & breakfast host and us: Please confirm at least 1 week before arrival (or for last minute bookings after receipt of our confirmation) your arrival time in the bed & breakfast. Otherwise we cannot guarantee that your hosts will be at home on your arrival. Please understand this arrangement as you are in a private family and that could not be at home due to private commitments. Thank you very much in advance.
- Very late arrival: Some airlines arrive at Stansted airport around 23 h. Please let us know your arrival time on booking as not all hosts can accept such a late arrival time. Please call your host family after your landing from the airport so that they know that you arrived on time and when you will be approximately at their B&B.
- Early departure: In case you leave at 7 h from Stansted airport you have to leave the B&B very early. In this case your host will be glad to arrange a taxi / minicab for you for your way to the station the day before you leave. Please inform your hosts on time and they will also prepare a “breakfast to go” for you.
